Elysian's Scrapbook Nick Fischer Day in Elysian March 31, 2007 Mayor Mack Evans presents Nick Fischer with the official proclamation.
Elysian honors their state champ The Elysian community honored one of their young people, Nick Fischer, on Saturday to celebrate his state wrestling championship. Mayor Mack Evans proclaimed March 31, 2007 as Nick Fischer Day and invited local residents to join him in congratulating the star student athlete. Fischer, a junior at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School, was surrounded by family and friends, his coaches and teammates as he accepted a framed proclamation from the Mayor. "This is an Elysian first," Evans told the crowd gathered at Fischer's Corner Bar and Grill, his parents' popular establishment on Main Street. "Nick is the first athlete to win a state title for his school and he's the first person in the history of the city to have his own day." Fischer competed in the state wrestling tournament held at St. Paul's Excel Center on March 3. He came out the winner in the AA 215 pound weight class after a match involving three overtimes with Wabasha-Kellogg's Trevor Glomski. "It was the No. 1 wrestler against the No. 2 wrestler that day," explained Evans. "He went into it No. 1, he came out of it No. 1, and today we can say Elysian is home to a state champion." The community event was sponsored by the Elysian Area Chamber of Commerce. READ the Mayor's official proclamation here.
