A bright, sunny day made for an enjoyable fishing contest on Lake Francis, Sunday, February 5. This annual event is sponsored by American Legion Post 311 members, the Auxiliary and Sons of American Legion.
Fishing winners were Ashley Stangler of Elysian with her 2.07 pound northern. Her first prize catch won $100. Second prize fish was a 2.03 northern caught by Duane Arverson of Cleveland. Arverson won $50. Kirk Alford won $25 for his third prize catch, a 1.89 pound northern. The fourth prize of $10 went to Tayber Erickson for his 1.63 pound northern.
The contest raffle grand prize of $1,000 was won by Kurt Wann of New Prague. Sean Hohnstadt won second prize of $500. Duane Anderson won third prize of $250. Lyle Volk and Joe Chromy each won $100 for fourth and fifth prizes. Rick Childs won the sixth prize of $50.
In the Sons of American Legion drawing, Kelly Simonette won a portable fish house, Rocky Stangler won the Vexilar and Larry Lotton won an ice auger.
